One of the great things about living in Franklin County, Massachusetts – other than shopping at Wilson’s Department Store – is visiting one of the many local swimming holes during the summer. Personally, my favorite swimming spot is down at the Millers River, right where it empties out into the Connecticut River. I go down there several times a week, if not daily during the hot, hazy days of summer. This year, I got my first swim in on May 6th, and I hope to swim throughout September. I won’t let summer go without a fight!
Now, I have to admit – I have an issue with bathing suits. They appear to be in two categories: tiny bikinis that consist of a few triangles of fabric and a couple of straps; and one-piece suits made from a generous amount of material for the more “modest” woman. Age-wise, the tiny bikinis seem to be geared toward young ladies in their teens and twenties, and the one-piece numbers seem to be geared toward a more mature woman. This is a generalization, but nonetheless, I don’t find myself fitting into either category.
What I want is a suit that makes me feel youthful and stylish, but that allows for some modesty, and (ahem) security. Let’s face it, I just don’t feel that 2 triangles tied on with a strap is going to cut it.
Well, here’s the good news! Wilson’s has it all! Yes, they have the tiny bikinis and the modest one-piece suits, but they ALSO have a selection of swimsuits for women that want something in between. This summer I found 2 adorable print bikinis (in my size – glory, hallelujah!) that were just what I was looking for! One is a purple halter top bikini, and the other one (shown below) is a pretty pink bikini, complete with underwire for that extra security. The bathing suits were $30 each – what a deal! You gotta love Wilson’s!
